Veterinary preparation, CFIA endorsement, GB reception.
Follow the Canadian certificate handoff before confirming the actual Great Britain transport and arrival arrangements. Dog treatment and the later Canadian return are separate discussions.
Use the Great Britain certificate branch
The GB travel-document table ↗ lists Canada with a Great Britain pet health certificate. Great Britain means England, Wales and Scotland here; Northern Ireland follows a different process. The EU-bound Canadian certificate is not automatically the GB-bound certificate.
The CFIA GB non-commercial page ↗ links its certificate for five or fewer animals and asks travellers to compare the actual document with receiving-country instructions. This explanation follows ordinary private cat/dog movement without sale or ownership transfer. Ask the veterinarian about the animal group, companion and owner declaration; other categories are outside this working path.
Keep the specimen’s three handoffs separate
| Handoff | Responsible role |
|---|---|
| Veterinary preparation and signature | The licensed veterinarian matches identity and supporting records to the currently supplied Canadian GB certificate. |
| Official endorsement before departure | The CFIA office reviews and endorses the completed document in the ordinary private-veterinarian workflow. Arrange the separate appointment. |
| GB receiving check | The actual authorised receiving service checks the animal and papers; customs and collection arrangements still need their own confirmation. |
The linked HA3149 specimen ↗ is marked amended 5 August 2021. It contains authorised/official-veterinarian, competent-authority endorsement and GB entry-check blocks. That older date alone does not establish that the form is withdrawn. Ask CFIA and the veterinarian which current certificate they will supply; PetWaymark does not fill or issue the specimen.
The CFIA export directory ↗ and endorsement appointment instructions ↗ describe private veterinary preparation followed by official endorsement before the animals leave Canada. The appointment page also explains supporting papers, payment and rescheduling. A paid appointment or signed private paper is not a booked pet transport service.
Discuss the actual issue and arrival events
GOV.UK certificate guidance ↗ describes entry within ten days of certificate issue. HA3149’s note describes official issue to the documentary and identity check. Keep the private signature, competent-authority endorsement and receiving check visible on the actual document; do not assume every date has the same role. This page supplies no expiry calculation or sea-travel extension.
A dog’s treatment record needs its own check
GOV.UK’s dog-treatment instructions ↗ require a veterinary record tied to GB entry 24–120 hours later; Canada is not a direct-origin exemption. Discuss the recorded treatment time and what a delayed arrival changes. This is a dog-only rule, not a cat-treatment requirement, and PetWaymark does not prescribe treatment.
Confirm the service that actually receives the pet
Use the approved operator register ↗ alongside the GB transport-mode instructions ↗, then ask the actual carrier which pet service it accepts. The register does not reserve cargo space. The GB arrival page ↗ separates document/microchip checks from customs clearance and collection for non-EU arrivals. Identify who performs each task at the actual arrival point.
Canadian return evidence is separate
The CFIA entry selector ↗ and Canadian veterinary evidence rules ↗ concern the later return. The outward GB certificate does not answer the Canadian age, purpose, residence or carrier questions. The GB → Canada guide explains that independent handoff.
Who to ask about an unresolved point
For your own Canadian document question, follow the local-office or contact referral on the relevant CFIA page above. For GB entry or the export application, use APHA’s official enquiry directory ↗. PetWaymark does not send enquiries on your behalf or wait for institution replies as a project task.
Keep these decisions open until checked
- Actual ordinary non-commercial movement category and current GB certificate supplied by the Canadian veterinarian/CFIA
- Private signature, official endorsement/issue and receiving-check event on the completed document; no calculated deadline
- Dog-only treatment record and delay handling remain animal/arrival-specific
- Published approved operator is separate from booked pet service and customs collection
- Canada return species/age/purpose evidence must be reviewed separately

Take nine questions to the responsible people
Choose Canada → Great Britain in the worksheet. Four shared prompts and five questions specific to this direction leave space for handwritten replies and source references. A tick means discussed, not accepted for travel.
